Pipes
Richard Lewis O’Mealy 1873-1947
Most pipers are unique individuals but R. L. O’Mealy takes the biscuit. In an eventful and productive live, he grew up in his historic birthplace of Tristernagh, later moving to Dublin city, Boyle in Roscommon, Cork city, and finally living at 3 addresses in Belfast. A master piper and pipe-maker, he was startlingly adept at self-promotion, and had strong ideas as to how things should be done!
In 2009 the Seán Reid Society devoted a full issue of its journal to O’Mealy which can be seen here at the society’s website: www.seanreidsociety.org
